You can set the size of the denominator using the dropdown in the upper right corner. When changing the size of the denominator your score is reset. Simplify is primarily meant for pupils in the lower grades.

A number (written in numbers) could be converted to money (how it's written on a check), year, ordinal, or cardinal. Life skills lessons, whether in the resource room, or in a regular L.A. block would be good venues to practice moving from spelled out numbers to cardinals and ordinals and back. There is some availability to foreign languages with this program as well. Grades 5-8 would be good grade levels to practice on this application.

You then discuss your thoughts with other people and track your opinion and rationale over time. Start the game by entering your name in the start screen (see the general instructions page). When the game begins you will find a statement on the screen. Consider how you feel about that statement. Do you agree or disagree? Choose a value for your opinion by adjusting the slider appropriately. Then type a brief rationale at the bottom (remember you can bring up a keyboard to type by clicking on the ABC towards the lower left of your Palm).
Genetics- http://education.mit.edu/pda/igenetics.htm Players in this game are told to live as long as possible and reproduce. Your ability to survive and reproduce is influenced by your genome so figuring out what the genes stand for is critical in survival. Start the game by entering your name in the start screen (see the general instructions page). It is critical that everyone start the game at the same time, so after entering your name, wait for the rest of the class to start. When the game starts you'll see that you have a sequence of five genes (by default). Each of the genes stands for a trait. The shading of the genes (solid, striped and clear) somehow stands for homozygous recessive, homozygous dominant and heterozygous at that position. Your current age (which will constant increase), generation, and total score are also displayed.

Virus: http://education.mit.edu/pda/ivirus.htm Players in this game are told to meet as many people as possible without getting sick. You can only meet each other player one time. The catch is that no one knows how you get sick. Start the game by entering your name in the start screen (see the general instructions page). It is critical that everyone start the game at the same time, so after entering your name, wait for the rest of the class to start. You can meet other players by lining up your Palms and having ONE player hit the Meet button (one person is the sender and the other is the receiver). The machine will keep track of your meetings (make sure everyone enters a unique name), and the number of meetings.? Only the initial meeting with a person counts. At any point in time if you don't want other people to meet you, you can press the READY button, which will toggle to say LOCKED. In this mode you can neither send or receive meetings.
Sugar and Spice: http://education.mit.edu/pda/isugar.htm This game is loosely based upon Sugarscape, as described in Epstein and Axtell's Growing Artificial Societies. All players in this game new two types of commodities to survive - sugar and spice. If a player ever runs out of either one of these, then they perish. The catch is that players are either inherently sugar producers (they eat spice and turn it into sugar) or spice producers (they eat sugar and turn it into spice). When the game begins players must determine which type they are by observing their meters that indicate their current provisions.
